About the Project

The pandemic has cost us a lot of things - from losing loved ones to converting our homes into makeshift spaces of work. The impact has been on everyone, especially children who had to suddenly shift to an online mode to continue their education. The challenge here has been enormous, especially for communities where digital infrastructures are still not robust enough to streamline the online education processes.

In order to understand the impact on not only children's learning but also on parents and teachers, this project was aimed at conducting a video ethnography in various parts of the country - Gujarat, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh.

The team interviewed various stakeholders and found various insights that were created into 3 distinct documentary films.

This process has been part of World Bank's on-going study on understanding the impact of the pandemic on children's learning.

Process

Using secondary research as well as data collated and analyzed by World Bank, a question guide was created for interviews with different stakeholders - Children, Teachers, Parents and NGO workers.

Different organizations and schools were then contacted to agree for the research and the teams were off to their respective states.

I, along with my videographer, Manas Daxini, headed to Kutch, Gujarat in collaboration with Unnati and spoke to many people in different villages.

We also spoke to parents and workers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat about the challenges of digital education.

The project ended after the submission of the footage and sharing of our insights about the project.

Below are some images from the research.
